In light of the election results, who should I donate to?

Like many others I'm reeling at what has just happened in the US. As a first step in resisting what's to come, I would like to donate to charities or other organizations that work toward the causes that have been imperiled by the election results.

I will donate to the ACLU and Planned Parenthood. What are other organizations that are an effective (and failing that, effectively symbolic) target? Particularly environmental organizations, conservation organizations, and those that work to oppose police militarization; but I am open to suggestions, including other organizations that work towards civil liberties and LGBTQ rights. I'm sure Im missing a few; it was a long sleepless night. Thanks Metafilter. Help me make this right.

Any organization working to help resettle refugees - I donated to Columbus Refugee and Immigration Services because they're local to me and I know they do great work.

In addition to the excellent ideas above, think about supporting quality media that will help speak truth to power. If we want an end to clickbait-driven "journalism", they need alternative revenue sources.

I'm prioritizing Black Lives Matter bail funds and SPLC.

Southerners on New Ground. Kickass grassroots community organizing with queer people in the South.

Trans Lifeline does great work and really needs money. I'm trans and know folks who volunteer with them and folks who have used their services, and I can vouch for them.

i'm going to be concentrating my donation and advocacy efforts primarily on native americans and trans people of color, as they have always been the most marginalized members of our society and will now be facing even greater amounts of immediate and personal danger. i don't have any specific organizations to rec yet, unfortunately.

Earthjustice seems effective at making litigation challenges to awful environmental policy. I worked for an energy lobby in Washington. Earthjustice got stuff done.

International Refugee Committee. National Hotline for Domestic Violence. RAINN. Standing Rock. Other links on the Jezebel list.

I second ACLU and SPLC. Federal judges appointed by past presidents are our only real line of defense of civil liberties.

Progressive Change Campaign Committee is also outstanding.
