Movie Mimic

Ever get that uncanny feeling of deja vu while walking down the street in some city that you've never been to before? Maybe you saw it in a movie some time ago. Maybe the combination of the scenery and the architecture and passersby being in the same places as the principal actors set it off. The Movie Mimic does this on purpose, and includes Google Maps of the sites in case you'd like to go there yourself and strike a pose.
Someone went to the trouble of recreating a shot from You Don't Mess With the Zohan?

key lime guy, the fascinating thing about that shot (to me, anyway) is that the filmmakers digitally added all those buildings in the background. Is it supposed to take place in a future where Cabo San Lucas is horribly overdeveloped or something?

Ooh! I have to do one of these for Zombieland. The supermarket scene was filmed about a mile from my house.

He has seen a LOT of foreign films that I have not seen (or even heard of).
Of course, he has also been to a LOT of foreign places I have not been to. Grumble.

I got that uncanny feeling of deja vu last month watching my friends' vacation pictures, mostly taken in Miami. It was pretty amusing to recognize scenery from GTA: Vice City.

He does a pretty good job duplicating the zoom and focus and framing of the originals. I've tried to duplicate some historic photos with current day shots for a "Then and Now" thing and failed pretty terribly matching the old shots with my (cheap) camera.

Here's an alleyway in Atlanta that was used in "Sharkey's Machine." I don't know if that scene was particularly memorable or what, but every time I see it I'm taken back to the experience of seeing that movie with my family.

This seems less like a movie buff with a location fetish as another version of ... that thing where you travel the world and pose like a running man figure? What was that called? Google isn't helping.

Oh, that's nothing. As was linked to previously on the blue, I once recreated the entirety of Drag Me to Hell, filming at all the original locations, using actual props from the movie, and using Alison Lohman's actual stand-in from the film. And I did it all from (admittedly faulty) memory!

Somewhere around the twenty year anniversary of Miller's Crossing I went back and shot a lot of the locations used in the film but I didn't insert myself into the pics because I could never possibly be as cool as Gabriel Byrne.

Not from a movie, but the first time I found myself standing across the street from the University Club on 5th Ave in NY gave me a surreal "have I been here before?" feeling. Took me a few minutes to place the memory to the painting. Wasn't quite the same as true Deja Vu though.
